US MOTION commenced operations in 1998 in Liberty Lake, Washington. Its two founders were Lee Norman and Darren Helm, both highly-regarded senior-level engineers who agreed to merge their respective engineering consulting practices into the new firm. The company quickly garnered a distinguished reputation for its precision measurement systems and its multi-disciplinary approach to complex engineering challenges.
Its initial encoder products were released in 2001. Its earliest motor products were launched in 2002. Its first wireless (Bluetooth) optical sensor was developed in 2003. Among its various engineering consulting activities, US MOTION was an important contributor to the Jacobs Civil engineering consortium that received the 2003 ACEC Grand Conceptor Award for the nation’s top engineering achievement involving its work on an innovative, removable spillway weir.
Over time, US MOTION has added machining capacity, manufacturing capacity, assembly technicians and engineering staff. The company has moved several times to accommodate its growth, most recently in 2007 to its current location. Along the way, the company has earned a reputation for innovative solutions and smart products that bridge traditional market categories.
