Putting more functionality into a smaller, process-specific smarter sensor results in a simplified and more integrated system. The system part count is reduced and the burden on the central processor is greatly decreased.
Historically, a system would have a dedicated pc, separate software, separate power supply, one or more data acquisition cards, A-D conversion and more. Our approach is to bring the intelligence to the source of the data. The US MOTION solution is clean, simple and integrated. It captures data, analyzes it in real time, makes smart decisions based on its analysis and streams back the results to the central processor for the system.
This result is not possible with a standalone sensor. Intelligence must be wed to the sensor. For this reason, US MOTION has done pioneering work in smarter sensors, which integrate efficient and real-time data capture and data processing. Separate components are eliminated - no extra cables, no extra cards, no extra circuitry.
A good example of a smarter sensor is our custom optical sensors which integrate three linescan cameras, advanced data acquisition electronics, a robust battery, a microprocessor and bluetooth wireless communication — all of which fits into the dimensional equivalent of a matchbox. The componentry for our smarter sensors is typically wireless, meaning that we can communicate the data through several different wireless protocols back to the central processor (server, pc, laptop, handheld, etc.).
